On 15 June the new cruise building or the ABC Tower was solemnly opened in the presence of Renaat Landuyt, Mayor of the city of Bruges and Joachim Coens, CEO of the Port of Zeebrugge.
Every year a total of 145 cruise vessels call at Zeebrugge, bringing half a million cruise passengers to the region. In order to welcome this flow of passengers in safety, the construction of a cruise terminal was a necessity. Today the cruise building has become a reality. The tower constitutes a gateway to have these half a million cruise passengers discover Bruges, Flanders or other cultural centres.
It is the ambition of the port authority to put Zeebrugge on the map as a departure and arrival port for cruises in Europe. The first embarkations are planned for this summer.
