The vessel 'Saga Discovery' arrived in the port of Zeebrugge on December 2nd. On board was the first load of paper pulp from the Brazilian company Fibria Celulose for the Verbrugge Terminal in Zeebrugge's outer port.
Fibria Celulose is a Brazilian company with a strong presence in the global forest products market. Verbrugge Terminals Zeebrugge recently signed a contract with Fibria. In this agreement, the port of Zeebrugge acts as a distribution platform for the European markets, and also as a transhipment port for markets overseas.
Verbrugge Terminals Zeebrugge operates from the Albert II dock, where they have built two 20,000 m² warehouses. Earlier this year, Verbrugge Terminals also signed a contract with the West-Flemish company Koddaert, for the storage of steel products.
For the port of Zeebrugge, the sector of paper and paper pulp products is one of the key sectors. The volumes amount to 3 million tonnes annually. Since 2000, the paper sector has developed around Zeebrugge's Wielingendok (close to the Albert II dock) where PSA's multi purpose terminal is situated and where StoraEnso's paper loads are handled. Since 2015, Verbrugge has also taken part in the paper sector.
