On 7 October on the Hanze terminal in the Zeebrugge inner port the official launch took place for the construction of the new quay wall in the Southern Canal Dock. The first spade was attended by delegates of the Zeebrugge port authority, BESIX and International Car Operators (ICO) Zeebrugge.

It is in the light of the growing car traffics that the Zeebrugge port authority decided to build extra infrastructure in the inner port.

The new quay wall is being constructed at the Hanze terminal of International Car Operators. This third terminal of ICO in Zeebrugge became operational in 2014.

The existing quay wall in the Southern Canal dock will be lengthened with 200 meters to the south. In addition a reverse quay of 172 meters will be built to the west.

The construction of the new quay wall and the dredging works will be completed by 2017.
